We partner with district HR teams and local universities to offer a variety of solutions and support to guide you along the way! Teacher Assessment Preparation Program (T.A.P.P) 

In partnership with Delaware State University and Your Teacher Tutors, we offer a no cost Praxis exam preparation course that includes access to an online test prep platform, peer study groups, and tutoring on content areas and test prep strategies. Praxis prep classes are open to all city of Wilmington school staff who need to pass the Praxis teaching exam.

A select number of slots are available for Paraprofessionals who need to pass the ParaPro exam. The course is structured to provide you with extended tutoring support to truly prepare you to PASS your exam! Weekly tutoring sessions are led by trained tutors who are experienced certified teachers.

This is a course that requires a commitment to attending sessions weekly, utilizing a test prep platform for continued studying in between sessions and leveraging your peers for study group support. Upon successful completion of the course you will receive a voucher to cover the cost of taking the Praxis exam! Classes are held once a week in-person at the Delaware State University Riverfront building in Wilmington, DE. Childcare is provided upon request.

Fall 2024 CourseRegistration Closed

The fall course runs on Monday and Wednesday evenings October 28th through December 11, Classes are offered on the following subjects: Elementary ELA & Math, Secondary English & Math, ParaPro English/Math). Additional subjects will be offered in spring.

This online platform is designed to help you study to successfully pass your certification exams. Free membership access is offered through the WLC.

Alternative Routes to Certification (ARTC) Programs 

We partner with local universities to support you in enrolling in an Alternative Routes to Certification (ARTC). ARTC Programs allows Delaware public and charter school educators to obtain initial licensure and certification upon completion of a minimum of 24 credits in an area aligned to a PK-12 content area. Additionally, they must pass the Praxis II in the content area and obtain a letter of eligibility from a state-approved alternative route to certification program.

Educators hired as a “Teacher of Record” under ARTC have two years to complete the program requirements. Some of the Delaware education preparation programs are listed below:

Teacher Pipeline Programs

Year-long Teacher Residency Program

Local districts partner with Delaware based universities to place year long residents in schools, working with cooperating teachers while receiving on the job training. Residents are paid a yearly stipend.

Grow Your Own Paraprofessional to Teacher Program

District partnerships with local universities offer a two year long residency for paraprofessionals who have 60 credits or an associates degree. Paraprofessionals work with cooperating teachers to receive on the job training while they complete a bachelor’s degree at no cost.
